WILL OUR MARRIAGE BE LEGAL?

Yes. Since I am a registered officiant with the Québec government, on your wedding day, I will give you a copy of the Declaration of Marriage that I have to send to the Directeur de l’état civil (DEC-50). Afterwards, you must send in a request for your marriage certificate from the Québec government, just as you would for a birth certificate, by filling out the appropriate form.

CAN YOU MARRY US ANYWHERE IN QUÉBEC?

Yes. Currently, most of the weddings I celebrate are in the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region and the Gatineau area, but I have been all across Québec. If I am available, I love travelling to where you are for your ceremony.

IF WE LIVE IN ANOTHER PROVINCE OR COUNTRY, CAN YOU MARRY US IN QUÉBEC?

Yes. You will be married according to the provisions of the Civil Code of Québec. You must verify the applications of this law with a competent legal authority in your province or your country.

AS AN FSEV OFFICIANT, CAN YOU OFFICIATE AT OUR WEDDING OUTSIDE OF QUÉBEC?

No. I can not officiate at your wedding outside of Québec.

WE ARE DIVORCED; CAN YOU REMARRY US?

Yes. I respect your choice of life project. You must provide your divorce certificate proving that you are free of any previous matrimonial ties.

DO WE HAVE TO TAKE MARRIAGE PREPARATION CLASSES?

No. As an FSEV officiant, I do not offer marriage preparation classes.

HOW SOON CAN WE GET MARRIED?

Legally, the bans must be published at least 20 days prior to the wedding date.

MY PARTNER AND I ARE OF DIFFERENT FAITHS; CAN YOU MARRY US?

Yes. A marriage is a celebration of love, and love knows no bounds.

CAN YOU MARRY US ON A DAY OTHER THAN SATURDAY?

Of course! More and more couples choose to get married on a day other than Saturday. I am available 365 days a year.

CAN YOU MARRY SEVERAL COUPLES AT THE SAME TIME?

Of course, as long as each couple agrees with the choice of celebration.

DO YOU OFFER THE CEREMONY OF BAPTISM AND FUNERAL SERVICES?

Yes. For more information, click on the tab “Contact” and send me your questions in the “Comments” section.

WHAT IS AN OFFICIANT?

An officiant who presides over a marriage or civil union acts as an official for the registry office, and must obtain the free and enlightened consent of the intended spouses. An officiant must ensure that all of the legal requirements are complied with, before, during and after the solemnization of the marriage.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN FSEV OFFICIANT AND A ONE-DAY OFFICIANT?

I have been part of the FSEV team for 20 years. The FSEV officiant is a person with experience who has an extensive knowledge of the different rites pertaining to marriage. This enables him or her to counsel couples and avoid any slip-ups before, during, or after the ceremony. An officiant has a lot of resources and can be trusted to ensure the success of your important day. All of the legal formalities are taken care of by the FSEV officiant. Since an FSEV officiant has a long- term permit, you don’t have to worry if he or she can not officiate on your wedding day due to illness or an accident. The officiant will ensure a substitute takes their place.

WHAT HAPPENS IF OUR ONE-DAY OFFICIANT CAN NOT CELEBRATE OUR WEDDING DUE TO ILLNESS, OR OTHER UNFORESEEN CIRCUMSTANCES?

You will not be able to get married, and your wedding can not be postponed, since the authorization for a one-day officiant is only valid for him or her on the authorized date.

THE CIVIL CODE OF QUÉBEC HAS SOME LEGAL PROVISIONS TO PROTECT THE INTENDED SPOUSES. HOWEVER, IF CERTAIN EXCLUSIONS OR NEEDS MUST BE NOTARIZED, WE CAN PUT YOU IN TOUCH WITH ONE OF OUR NOTARY PARTNERS. THE FSEV OFFICIANT WHO OFFICIATES YOUR WEDDING WILL BE HAPPY TO PUT YOU IN TOUCH WITH THE NOTARY IN YOUR REGION.
